Hosting a Holiday Party on a Dime

This holiday season many people have opted out of hosting their traditional holiday bash. Of course it is understandable with this unsteady job market and this hard economy we are facing today. However, you can still have your traditional holiday bash, only with a few cost saving dishes and drinks!

If you want to host a holiday party, but you don't have the usual funds available try these simple cost saving ideas:

Drinks - Most parties require an open bar. However, an open bar can put a big dent in the party funds. If you still choose to opt for an open bar, try skimping on the name brand liquor. Instead borrow or buy used decanters to pour cheaper liquor into. No one will notice especially if you are making mixed drinks!

Food - The next biggest expense is of course the food. Instead of making a turkey or a ham, try serving finger foods! Finger foods can be filling and most importantly cheap! Set out a few of your favorite finger foods and serve them on your nice platters and serving dishes!

Party Gifts - How we all love to make and give each one of our guest a parting gift for coming to our parties! However, if you are trying to cut back on expenses you might want to cut this expense entirely. If you feel obligated to hand one out you might want to consider scaling the price of the gifts back considerably. Try giving a bag with a personal note inside for each one of your guest with holiday: scented candles, inexpensive chocolates, cookie cutters, or prepackage cookie mixes.

Entertainment - We love live entertainment, but our pocket books don't seem to like them as much! Allow a friend or family member to maintain the music with CD's that the crowd will love. Or you can ask your talented friends or family to play at your party!

You can still enjoy hosting a holiday party on a budget! Just remember that the point of the holiday party is to bring your loved ones together to celebrate and have a shared night of fun!
